Goodshop

  • What is Goodshop?

    Goodshop is an online shopping mall that donates a percent of your purchase price to your cause when you shop at one of 3,000+ partner stores including top retailers like Amazon (1.5% donation), Expedia (up to 5% donation), and Staples (2.5% donation). You can also find 25,000+ active discounts and money-saving coupons so you can save money and give back at the same time!

    When you sign up to use Goodshop and click on the shop button or on a coupon or deal, we notify our partner stores that we referred you to their site. We are given a referral fee when you make a purchase and we split the referral fee 50/50 with the cause you’ve chosen.

    Goodshop members have raised millions of dollars for causes through the simple act of shopping online with Goodshop. Put simply: you shop, we give!

  • How do I start raising money for my nonprofit or school with Goodshop?
    • Visit goodshop.com and select a cause from the hundreds of thousands of participating organizations or add a new cause by filling out the application here.
    • Register and create a user profile which will allow you to keep track of your individual amount raised.
    • Use the Goodshop tab at the top of the homepage or go to Goodshop to visit our online shopping mall and browse through thousands of partner stores, including top brands in clothing, office supplies, gifts and more.
    • Click through to the store and shop as you normally would. You pay nothing extra, but a portion of all qualifying purchases will go to your cause.
    • 100% of the donation amount displayed on merchant’s Goodshop page will go to the charity or school of your choice!
  • How much can I earn for my charity or school?

    You can see how much is donated back to your cause on each partner retailer’s respective page on Goodshop. This donation amount varies; but it generally ranges from 1% - 30% of your total purchase amount. Your amount raised from everyday shopping can quickly add up! There is no cap on how much money we will direct to charities.

    Charity or School SizeNumber of SupportersAverage Amount Purchased/YearPercentage DonatedEstimated donations/Year
    Small100$5003%$1,500
    Medium1,000$5003%$15,000
    Large10,000$5003%$150,000
  • Where does the money come from?

    When you shop through Goodshop at one of our retail partners, we are paid a referral fee. We direct 50% of this referral fee in the form of a donation to your selected cause.

  • So, there’s no cost to me? Is using Goodshop any different or more costly than buying directly from the retailer?

    Not at all! There is no cost and the experience of shopping through Goodshop is exactly the same as going to the retailer directly. You receive the same prices and level of service, and the retailers are responsible for collecting payment, shipping and returns. The only difference is that you have the added bonus of simply earning donations for your favorite cause through your shopping!

  • Is shopping through Goodshop secure?

    Absolutely! The entire transaction is done through the merchant sites, just as if you had gone to their store directly - except with the added bonus of raising money for your cause.

  • Do all purchases qualify for a donation?

    You can earn a donation for your cause through most of your purchases, but each retailer has its own rules and some purchases may not qualify. For example, many merchants do not contribute donations for gift cards or gift certificates. For details on donation exceptions and other restrictions, you can scroll to the bottom of a retailer’s page on Goodshop.

  • What if I do not select a non-profit or school?

    Revenue raised by users who do not designate a specific charity or school will be used to fund our operations.

  • How can my store participate?

    If you would like add your store to Goodshop, feel free to contact us for more information at information[at]Goodshop.com.

  • Why is there a delay between when I make a purchase and when it shows up in the amount raised for my charity?

    We post the data that we receive from our retailers weekly. For some of our partner merchants, however, it can take up to eight weeks to report their sales back to us from the time of your purchase. You may also notice a change in the donation totals due to returned merchandise or cancelled orders. Please note: for most of our travel partners, the donation does not appear until a few weeks after your travel is completed.

    In addition, if you are a registered user keeping track of your personal earnings, you will not see your Amazon purchases show up in your individual amount raised total. Amazon is unique in that their technology does not provide us the ability to display earnings within user accounts. Amazon purchases will still earn donations for your cause, but will only be displayed in aggregate at the cause level.

  • What if it’s been more than eight weeks and I still don’t see the donation made from my purchase?

    There are a few reasons why your purchase may not have resulted in a donation:

    • The item didn't qualify for a donation. Please scroll down to the bottom of the merchant’s page on Goodshop to see if they’ve listed any exceptions.
    • You weren't logged in when you made the purchase.
    • Your cause was not designated when you made the purchase.
    • You didn't click over to merchant from its link on Goodshop (for example: you may have gone to the merchant site through the results on Goodshop, and not through their page on Goodshop).
    • You did not click “continue” when prompted by the dropdown from the Goodshop To-Go button or the Goodapp toolbar.
    • A toolbar or software from another shopping or coupon site is installed on your computer (please remove any such software if this is the case).
    • A coupon from another site or a "user-submitted" coupon posted on our site was used.
    • You already participate in the merchant's Rewards Program.
    • Lastly, please know that Amazon does not provide us the ability to display earnings within user accounts. Amazon purchases will still earn donations for your cause, but will only be displayed in aggregate at the cause level.

    If none of these apply and you do not see your donation appearing on your charity or user account page after eight weeks, please fill out the forms found here. Please make sure that you are logged in to your personal user account when you are completing this form, and that you fill out a form for each purchase made. We'll do our best to contact the merchant and resolve the issue ASAP.

Goodsearch

  • What is Goodsearch?

    Goodsearch is a simple way to make a difference - each time you search the web (though Yahoo!-powered Goodsearch), shop online (at the 2,800+ stores on Goodshop), we'll make a donation to your favorite cause. We know you have limited time and money and we've created our products to make giving back easy.

    Goodsearch is a community of passionate people - it's a group of more than 15 million people who together are helping their favorite causes through simple everyday actions. So far, we've raised over $13 million for more than 100,000 non-profits and schools through over a billion charitable actions. We'd be excited to have you join us to simply do good.

    Goodsearch is a way to feel good - We all feel good when we do something to make the world better. At Goodsearch, we feel great when each year we get tens of thousands of letters telling us stories about how we've helped find cures for diseases, purchased needed school supplies for students, sheltered the homeless and saved the lives of countless animals. Through using Goodsearch, you will feel great and feel celebrated each time you make a difference with your daily actions.

    Where does the money come from? There are more details below but in essence, Goodsearch was founded on the socially responsible principles of companies such as Ben and Jerry's, The Body Shop and Tom’s Shoes; for-profit companies like us that donate a significant portion of their top-line revenue or profits to support causes.

  • What is the Goodsearch search engine?

    It’s a patent-protected, Yahoo!-powered search engine that you use exactly as you would any other search engine. The difference is, and here’s the exciting part, each time you do a search, about a penny is raised for your favorite non-profit or school. The more you search, the more you earn for your cause and combined with millions of others in the Goodsearch movement, your searches can make a real impact. Put simply: you search, we give!

  • How do I start raising money for my non-profit or school with Goodsearch?
    • Visit www.goodshop.com and select a cause from the hundred thousand participating organizations or click here to apply for your favorite cause to be listed.
    • Create a user profile that will allow you to keep track of your individual amount raised.
    • Use the search box on our homepage or download a Good To-Go add-on to search the Internet just like you normally would, with the added bonus that you are earning a donation for virtually every search.
  • How good are the search results?

    Goodsearch is powered by Yahoo! so you'll get high-quality search results.

  • How much can I earn for my charity or school?

    Your pennies per search can quickly add up! Each qualifying web search generates approximately one cent (see below for some exceptions) and the following chart highlights how you can use this towards making a difference. There is no cap on how much money we will distribute to charities.

    Charity or School SizeNumber of SupportersAverage Searches Per DayEstimated donations/Year
    Small1002$730
    Medium1,0002$7,300
    Large10,0002$73,000
  • Where does the money come from?

    Search engines make most of their money from their advertisers. At Goodsearch, we've patented a way to track and direct these search-generated proceeds to causes. In other words, a portion of advertiser dollars (and not your own!) earned as a result of your search, are now passed along to the organization you've chosen to support.

  • What percentage of revenue goes to the charities and schools?

    We donate the lesser of $0.01 per search or 50% of the revenue earned from our partnership with Yahoo! (i.e., revenue generated from sponsored search results displayed on Goodsearch) when our users select a cause.

  • So, thereʼs no cost to me?

    Exactly! Weʼre providing a way for people to support a cause they care about at no cost to themselves. The money comes from the advertisers on Goodsearch.

  • Do all of my searches count toward donations?

    Most of your searches will earn donations for your cause, but exceptions include:

    1. Image searches;
    2. Video searches;
    3. "Search this Site" searches;
    4. Searches for URLs (i.e., search terms ending in .com, .org, .net, .edu);
    5. Searches to sites for which the URL is well known, such as Facebook, Gmail, Twitter, ESPN, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.;
    6. Searches for the same term within a 24 hour period;
    7. "Also Try" searches;
    8. "Trending" searches (located on the left of the search results page);
    9. "Related Searches – Yahoo! Search Assist" (located at the bottom the search results page);
    10. Searches for word definitions;
    11. Searches for stock quotes;
    12. Any searches generated from fraudulent use of the site.

  • What if I do not select a non-profit or school?

    Revenue raised by users who do not designate a specific charity will be used to fund Goodsearch operations.

  • How can I see how much my chosen cause has earned?

    Simple! Once you have selected a cause to support, the total amount raised will appear on the Goodsearch homepage. For the monthly earnings, just click on the organization’s name or logo to get to its profile page and then click on “details” under "Amount Raised" (please note: you have to be logged in to your individual user account to click on this "details" link.)

  • What stops people from clicking repeatedly just to raise money for their cause?

    Fraudulent searching will result in the user being blocked from the site and/or the charity being de-listed. Fraudulent searching includes, but is not limited to, repeated manual clicks, and the use of robots or other automated query tools. As long as you use Goodsearch honestly, just as you would any other search engine, it's never a problem.

  • Where do I find a full list of the non-profits I can support on Goodsearch?

    You can always try finding a charity by clicking on “Choose a cause” or “Change a cause” links found on the Goodsearch homepage. For a full list, click here. If you would like to add an organization to the list, feel free to submit an application here. Thanks for helping us grow the Goodsearch movement!

  • Can I donate to more than one cause?

    Absolutely! You can support as many causes as you’d like, but only one at a time. When you’re ready to make a change, just click on “Change your cause” on the Goodsearch homepage and select the charity or school you’d like to start raising funds for. This way, you can simply do good for multiple organizations!

  • My amount raised is not as high as I think it should be

    Your earnings reflect the amount you've raised since creating your account. Any donations you earned for your cause before establishing your user account (or while not logged in) will still count towards your organization’s total earnings but will not appear in your personal earnings.

  • My personal amount raised has dropped or disappeared.

    There are a couple of reasons this may have happened:

    • You have registered twice with Goodshop using two different email addresses. Please try and log in with another email address you often use to see if your funds have collected under that registration.
    • You have not registered with Goodshop before. It has been possible to use Goodshop without registering, and submitting your cause is different than personally registering. If you had not previously personally registered, your searching and shopping would have raised money for your cause (and are reflected in your cause's earnings), but they would not have been tracked to your user account.
    • You have been logged out of Goodshop. If this is the case, please click on “Login” on the top right side of the Goodshop homepage and re-log in.

Causes

  • What types of organizations are eligible to participate?

    To participate in our program, your organization should be a non-profit. This can include schools, charities, hospitals and clinics, volunteer services, political organizations, fraternal organizations, professional associations, religious organizations, governmental agencies, and more. When you submit an application for an organization, our team will review it and get back to you within 1-3 business days.

  • Does Goodshop work with charities or schools outside of the United States?

    We currently only work with US and international organizations which have US-based offices.

  • How can I add a charity to your list?

    There are more than a 100,000 organizations already part of the movement and it's likely that yours is already listed on Goodshop. Please first check to see if the organization you wish to support is already active on our site by following the “Choose your cause” or “Change your cause” links on the homepage. If your organization is not listed, simply fill out our quick and simple application here. Our team will review your application and get back to you within 1-3 business days.

  • How long will it take for my organization to be verified and get listed on Goodshop?

    It usually takes 1-3 business days for us to verify the information submitted and add your charity or school into our database. We'll send you our welcome e-mail as soon as it has been approved. With so many new organizations applying daily, we thank you for your patience!

  • Once my organization has been added to the Goodshop list, how do I access my charity login and password?

    There is actually no login or password required for the organizations listed on Goodshop.com. The email address you use when submitting an application for your cause is not linked to or required as a login. Please refer to the ‘how do I change my information’ FAQ for information on how you can update details for your cause.

    Where you see the option to login, this is only for individual user accounts which you can access using your personal email address and password (that do not have to be associated with your cause).

  • How do I change the information on my non-profit’s page on Goodshop?

    Easy! Please visit your organization’s profile page on Goodshop by clicking on its name or logo where you see it on our Goodshop homepage under “You’re supporting”. Look to the right of this page to the “Information” section and scroll to “Submit Update Request” to find the form to request changes. Please note: you can only see this “Submit Update Request” option if you are logged in to your individual user account. While anyone can submit a change, our team works to verify this change request before updating it on our site.

  • How do I add a logo to my organization's profile?

    Please send us your logo to information[at]goodshop.com and our team will update it within 1-3 business days.

  • If I run a non-profit organization or a school, how can I promote Goodshop to my supporters?

    Visit our "spread the word" page through the links on the bottom of our homepage, and you’ll find a number of great tips for getting the word out to supporters, employees, and board members.

  • Can I have our non-profit's name defaulted as a chosen cause when linking to Goodshop from our site?

    You can use the following format to create links that will pre-select your non-profit on our homepage (and copy these links onto your website or promotional materials). Replace xxx with your Charity ID:

    Goodshop:
    https://www.goodshop.com/?charityid=xxx
    (For example: https://www.goodshop.com/?charityid=12345)

    Goodshop:
    https://www.goodshop.com/?charityid=xxx
    (For example: https://www.goodshop.com/?charityid=12345)

    To find your organization's Charity ID please visit your organization’s page by clicking on its name or logo on our Goodshop homepage. If you then select “details” under the Amount Raised, you will find the Charity ID. In order to see these details you must be logged in to your personal user account. (Please note, the Charity ID will only appear after at least one search has been completed).

  • Why doesn't the Custom Search Box work?

    The Custom Search Box requires the included Javascript functions to work properly. In addition the form elements must retain the names and IDs set for them. Please ensure that the browser in question has Javascript turned on. Then, check the source code on your browser and make sure that the Javascript was rendered properly on your pages and that the form elements have the same names as the code sent to you. If the Search Box code was entered using a content management or authoring system, that system may have stripped out the Javascript code or changed or erased form element names.

  • Why doesn't the Custom Search Box "Search the Site" feature work?

    If these searches are not returning results, it's possible that the Yahoo! search engine that powers Goodshop did not index your site's content properly. Reasons for this may include the lack of search engine optimization, including but not limited to unfriendly URLs and lack of accurate meta description or keyword tags.
